Talisker 10-Year-Old Single Malt Gets Sustainable Packaging Upgrade

Diageo announced recently it will roll out new, more sustainable packaging for one of its more popular single malt Scotch whiskies, the Talisker 10-year-old.

This effort ties into the brand’s larger commitment to become more sustainable by the year 2030, outlined in its 2030 sustainability action plan. The new, sustainably packaged bottles are hitting the shelves now and other sustainable packaging is slated to follow the Talisker 10-year-old’s roll out.

This new packaging has increased the recyclability of the Talisker 10-year-old to 99.8%, and they also made improvements on the bottle. The plastic components of the bottle have been reduced by more than 85% and the original plastic stopper has been replaced with a premium wooden stopper.

The distillery also reduced its packaging weight by 6% since 2020 which ultimately reduces materials used by 28 tonnes across 2021 and less waste will be incurred for each bottle. 

“Made on the shores of the Isle of Skye, Talisker is committed to its drive to protect the planet, ensuring our whiskies are produced sustainably. The new packaging will increase the recyclability of the Talisker portfolio significantly and we’re continuously seeking ways to achieve our sustainability goals,” Pranay Chandra, Malt Whisky Marketing Manager, said in a prepared statement.

“Consumers are increasingly conscious of their own environmental impact, and we are dedicated to supporting and being a part of this. We understand that there is still more to do, however this is a significant step towards our goals of making all Talisker packaging recyclable by 2030, as well as working towards zero waste across our supply chain.”
